Disturbing Ad Makes Record Sales Plummet
Who thought this was a good idea for an ad? How is this going to sell more records? It's just plain creepy. As if the idea of a Ted Nugent doll isn't disturbing enough, they had to go and give it two hippy-esque crazy-Ted noggins. I don't know about you, but one thing I never wanted to see is a creepy two headed Ted Nugent doll. Let the nightmares commence...

Indeed. A two-headed Nuge doll is bad enough, but the ad . . . Jesus.
Yeah, it's damn creepy. The doll almost looks like Ted has had Tommy Chongs head grafted onto his shoulders. I really don't see how this would help Ted sell any records at all. Better yet, I found it in a teen mag, which makes the ad a little creepier.
You know what? This was almost par for the course. Major label records had funny, clever ads in the 1970s. Dig through some old issues of Creem and Rolling Stone and you'll see some good ones. They at least had clever copy and concept, as this one did; something you don't see any more.
Yeah, I know what you mean. But it seemed particularly out of place in a Tiger Beat magazine. Ted's not exactly the type of guy that should be sold to preteens and teenagers looking for a dreamy boyfriend.
Even barring that, as an adult, I still find the idea of a two headed Ted Nugent doll disturbing.
Excellent. I will add this link to our Resource centre website - you've done a great job.
