Hey Kids, Here's a Cool Way to Be Keep From Getting Skin Cancer

I absolutely loved Saturday morning tv shows, especially live action ones. The one problem was that my parents were the type who actually wanted us to enjoy the outdoors, play with our friends, get some exercise, and use our imaginations. The rules were my brother and I could each pick one Saturday morning show to watch, and that was it. Yup, my parents believed that we should use our brains rather than sit in a stupor and absorb pop culture.
Check out this CBS Saturday morning schedule! How great is this?! Bugs Bunny was usually the show I picked to watch - good cartooning, great voices, and although I didn't know it at the time, a great introduction to classical music.

I somehow managed to watch various episodes of most of the other shows too. Not sure if my parents were out or if they were doing yardwork, but I know I saw Shazam, Fat Albert, and Clue Club multiple times. Clue Club was basically Scooby Doo - scared dogs, good looking guy, good looking girl, dorky guy, and smart girl. Of course Scooby Doo was much better. I can't even remember the mysteries the Clue Club solved.

I had the same TV viewing rules that you did. And yes, I managed to sneak in a little extra, ha.

God, what I wouldn't give to have those cartoons back. I try to find something for my kids to watch, and it's just a bunch of strangeness. What's with all the weird, angular animation? Why did Mel Blanc have to die?

I will admit that Spongebob is growing on me.

The new cartoons are too much like a sitcom with their unfunny humor. While I like the idea and name of Spongebob, I don't find him all that funny. However, I did have my photo taken with him a few years ago. I'm always up for having my photo taken with a lifesize sponge in short pants!

I love the fact that the page is "tore up".
Why can't somebody puh-leese put Shazam on DVD?

Mighty ISIS...ISis...isis (that was meant to symbolize an echo)

That was the best Saturday morning line-up ever. Including the parade of characters in order of size: "On with the show this is it!"

Sigh. My children will never know the joy. I remember Clue, to, although I usually only saw the end because it came on before Bugs Bunny.

I used to look at Clue Club condescendingly as it was essentially a cheap Scooby Doo rip off, but I also would watch it if I had the chance. I'm not sure why. For some reason I have always had a fascination with tv shows that aren't very good. They're like a train wreck - I can't look away.

Needless to say, 60s and 70s cartoon trainwrecks are Shakespeare compared to the cartoons that are on now.
